Stop Light Pollution

When was the last time that you were able to really look up in the sky and see stars? Ocassionally I can but it would have to be in another location becaue I live in the city, so with all the city lights, its kind of hard to enjoy a night looking at the stars. With that being said, it is almost time for the 5th Annual Dark Sky Festival at Harmony. Plans for the festival is scheduled for Saturday, April 5, 2008. Is artificial lighting making it hard for you to enjoy looking up in the sky? Not only does it make it hard for us to see, but it also disrupts the surrounding natural environment, wastes energy, and has the potential to cause health problems. The Dark Sky Festival is intended to celebrate and promote the benefits of a night-sky free from the effects of excessive artificial lighting and is located in Harmony, Florida. Imagine a night sans artificial lighting and truly see the beauty of what a night sky is supposed to look like without light pollution. It will be so much fun because while at the festival there will be so much to do, there will be telescopes so that you can view the sky and a kids zone with a speaker talking about Myths in the Night, speakers talking about light pollution and a music by Motown recording artists, Rare Earth. For more information, you can call the Harmony Institute at 407-891-8358.
